How Long Does a Bottle Actually Last?

Daily wear assumes two to three sprays every day; occasional wear assumes a couple of times a week. Both are ranges because the figure depends on more than the bottle — see what changes it below.

The Variables

What Makes a Bottle Last Longer

Concentration
Extrait de parfum needs fewer sprays than an eau de toilette to reach the same presence, so a 100ml extrait lasts longer in practice than 100ml of something lighter. Azafah bottles extrait.
How many sprays you use
The single biggest factor. Two sprays a day versus six is the difference between a bottle lasting a year and lasting four months.
Skin type
Dry skin lets fragrance evaporate faster, so it tends to invite reapplication. Moisturising unscented beforehand genuinely helps a scent hold.
Season and climate
Heat lifts a fragrance off the skin faster. The same bottle will feel stronger and disappear sooner in August than in January.
How the bottle is stored
Light and heat break down perfume oils. A bottle kept on a sunny windowsill will turn long before one kept in a drawer.

Application

How Much to Actually Use

Extrait de parfum is more concentrated than the eau de parfum most people are used to, so the honest answer is usually fewer sprays than you think.

  • Office or daytime

    1–2

    One on each wrist, or one on the chest under a shirt.

  • Evening or dinner

    2–3

    Wrists and the base of the neck, where skin stays warm.

  • Occasion or event

    3–4

    Pulse points plus one into the hair or onto a scarf, which holds scent for hours.

  • Close quarters

    1

    One spray on the chest. Extrait carries further than people expect.
