Most perfumes are designed around the first thirty seconds, because that is what sells a bottle in a shop. We compose in the opposite order — and bottle the result at the highest standard concentration in perfumery.
Concentration
Concentration is the proportion of perfume oil in the bottle. It is the main thing separating a fragrance that lasts a full day from one that needs topping up at lunch — and it is the lever most brands pull to protect a margin. We chose the expensive end of it.
A higher concentration also changes how you wear it: one or two sprays is usually enough. Each product page lists the tested longevity, sillage and projection for that specific fragrance.
The Process
Most perfumes are designed from the opening, because that is what sells a bottle in a shop. We work the other way around and settle the base first — the oud, amber, woods or resins that have to still be there eight hours later. If the base cannot carry a day, there is no point composing anything on top of it.
The heart is the part people actually live with. Rose, saffron, spice and florals are layered against the base until the transition between them is seamless rather than a hand-off between two different perfumes. This is the stage that takes the longest and gets rejected the most.
Top notes — bergamot, citrus, fruit, fresh spice — are chosen last, to introduce the heart rather than upstage it. A bright opening that has nothing to do with the next six hours is a trick, and we would rather the first ten minutes tell the truth about the rest.
The finished composition is bottled as extrait de parfum, the most concentrated format in perfumery. That is a deliberate cost: more perfume oil per bottle, and fewer sprays needed per wear. It is the single change that most reliably answers the complaint we heard for 25 years — that a fragrance had faded by the afternoon.
Every composition is worn on skin across full days and different weather before it is approved — not evaluated on a paper strip in a studio. Anything that turns thin, sharp or unrecognisable by the evening goes back to the bench.
